COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TEACHING:

University of Texas at Brownsville.  Assistant Professor of Music.  (2012- 2014).  Coursework taught included Introduction to Conducting, Advanced Conducting, Secondary Instrumental Techniques, Foundations of Music Education, Applied Tuba and Euphonium, and Student Teacher Supervision.  Served as Co-conductor of the Rio Bravo Wind Ensemble and Director of the UT- Brownsville Jazz Ensemble.  I also coordinated the graduate program in music and performed on tuba in the UT- Brownsville Faculty Brass Quintet.

Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi.  Student Intern Supervisor.  (2014- Present).   

Southern Methodist University.  Adjunct Instructor of Music Education.  (1995, 1996, 1997).  Taught Instrumental Methods during three spring semesters.

UTB SERVICE:

UTB Mentoring Committee.

Coordinator of the graduate program in music.

Served on search committees for thee new faculty.

Created course syllabi for Introduction to Instrumental Conducting, Advanced Instrumental Conducting, Instrumental Techniques, Foundations of Music Education, and Wind Ensemble.

Performed on tuba in the newly formed UTB Faculty Brass Quintet. Rehearsed on a weekly basis and perform as required.

Conducted brass and woodwind sectional rehearsals for the UTB Symphony Orchestra.

Organized and hosted Brownsville Tubachristmas concerts in 2012 and 2013.  These events were run by the UTB tuba-euphonium studio.  Over 100 area public school tuba and euphonium players and band directors participated and performed.

1994-2014.  Texas Music Educators Association.  I have adjudicated the TMEA All-State tuba auditions every year since 1994.

 

OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

For over twenty-five years, I have served as the primary coordinator and organizer of annual Merry TUBACHRISTMAS concerts in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Brownsville.  Over 450 tuba and euphonium players participate in these three events each year.

1997-2006, 2008, 2010.  University of Texas at Arlington Summer Band Camp.  Low brass instructor, clinician, and performer.

I formed Stephen Shoop Music Publications in 2004.  The current catalog lists over 105 publications, CDs, and DVDs for low brass instruments.  My website may be found at http://www.ssmpub.com.  Several of my compositions, arrangements, and publications appear on contest-festival lists throughout the United States.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

I was appointed by the mayor of Ennis in 2001 to serve on the city’s Historic Landmark Commission.  I chaired the commission from January, 2005 through August, 2009.
